Jessica began her healthcare career when she completed a high school co-op placement as a student nurse on the labour and delivery floor. This experience sparked a huge fire in her, igniting a love of caring for patients and providing nursing care. After completing the Registered Practical Nursing program, specializing in in-patient surgery, Jessica decided to expand her knowledge base and become a Registered Massage Therapist. Jessica enjoys client centered care so much that she plans to practice under both RPN and RMT licenses for her whole working future. Jessica feels very fortunate and lucky to have found two careers she is passionate about and that will allow her to continue learning throughout her work life.

Having previously worked as an RMT in a physiotherapy office, Jessica has experience in rehabilitation massage (post-operative, scar massage, MVA), sports massage, lymphatic drainage, fascial mobilization, relaxation and wellness massage, and is eager to continue to broaden her massage therapy base. Her background in nursing has given Jessica an extensive knowledge of pathophysiology and anatomy, helping her understand the body and how best to achieve optimal function. In addition, she plans to further her massage skills with studies in athletic massage and sports rehabilitation, craniosacral therapy, hot stone massage, and how to tackle various specific impairments.

Originally from Northern Ontario, Jessica often returns home to Trout Creek, a small community just south of North Bay, to visit her friends and family on the maple syrup farm where she grew up. As a child on the 200-acre farm Jessica helped with the maple syrup process for 17,000 trees, and became a connoisseur of syrups – her favourite style is amber. She also spent many years playing soccer and basketball, and dancing in styles from jazz to tap to hip-hop to ballet.

Now on visits home Jessica likes to read, enjoy down time in a hammock at the family cabin, and take time to appreciate the break from the city while playing with her family's two dogs, Jager and Tikka. While in Ottawa, however, she likes to spend time with friends, cook, and most importantly, eat! Jessica spends much of her time at the gym so she can stay strong and ensure she has a pain-free career as an RMT. In the future she would like to travel to enrich her perspective as she continues to build her career in Ottawa. Jessica is filled with enthusiasm about her life and work, loves being part of the Body Poets team, and can't wait to share everything she learns with her clients.
