Therapeutic Taping

K Taping Ottawa at Body Poets Massage Therapy

In therapeutic taping, pieces of soft, stretchy tape are applied to the skin in specific patterns following the path of an affected muscle or nerve. The tape is placed to activate the body’s neurological, soft tissue, circulatory, and lymphatic systems. The goal is to support the body’s healing in a fast, comfortable, and non-invasive way, while allowing free range of motion to the areas being treated.

You can choose from K-Taping or Kinesio Taping at downtown Ottawa’s Body Poets Massage Therapy. Both these styles of therapeutic and sports taping use a gentle application of non-latex, hypoallergenic, elasticized tape to improve posture, decrease swelling, and diminish pain, without impairing circulation or range of motion.

A good way to think of therapeutic tape is as an exoskeleton: an external covering that provides support and protection in harmony with your body’s specific shape and needs.

Taping techniques are used to treat posture (including correcting postural imbalances during pregnancy), headache, back pain, knee pain, elbow pain and other joint pains, joint instability, sciatica, carpal tunnel and other nerve entrapment issues, and plantar fasciitis, for example.

Diverse issues such as disc problems, menstrual pain, and sport injury treatment or prevention are all addressed with these therapies. Sprains, strains, and swelling from injury or surgery are also treated quickly and gently with taping.

Kenisio Taping Ottawa at Body Poets Massage Therapy

K-Taping and Kinesio Taping are brand names applied to specific types of tape and the training required to use them professionally. Our registered massage therapists at Body Poets use either K-Taping or Kinesio Taping, depending on their training and certification.

Both types of tape used at Body Poets are non-medicated, hypoallergenic, latex-free, long-lasting therapeutic tapes; they are breathable, water-resistant and usually are comfortable to wear for up to five days.

K-Tape is made of cotton and acrylic glue and is approved by dermatologists. Kinesio Tape is made of 100% elastic fibers.

Therapeutic taping will be done as part of your massage therapy session. All our therapists are registered massage therapists (RMTs) and all our treatments are eligible for coverage by health care plans that include massage therapy.
